Dairy Free Vanilla Custard

The weather is getting colder and I absolutely love having stewed fruits for breakfast, snacks and dessert. During the colder months our digestive system can struggle to move through cold, raw foods especially if we are already an individual who already has a cold constitution like myself.

Eating a lot more warming foods, spices, stewed fruits and slow cooked meals can give our body a wide range of nutrients that we need during the winter months but also is easy on our digestive tract to absorb all the nutrients.


Absolutely nothing beats stewed fruits with crumble topping and covered in custard. When I got some of the Rebel Mylk dairy free milks from Natural Things I knew I wanted to have a play and make some vanilla custard for winter. What a bugger it was playing with a custard recipe and eating crumble, this crumble will be delicious poured over all desserts!

Dairy Free Vanilla Custard 


1 cup of Rebel Mylk Dairy Free Milk

1 tbsp cornflour

1 tbsp maple syrup

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean scrapped.  


1. In a small bowl, whisk together egg, maple syrup, vanilla and cornflour until smooth.  

2. In a saucepan on a low to medium heat, pop in the milk and then slowly whisk through the other ingredients. Gently whisk the custard until it starts to thicken, around 15 minutes. 

3. Pour hot custard over stewed fruits or pop into a jar and leave in the fridge for the mornin.
